Several weeks ago, Apple released a software update and a firmware update.
Very soon after, many, many users complained that their MacBooks were randomly shutting down, blaming everything from the software & firmware updates to poorly seated RAM or a heatsink.
Apple finally fessed up, without giving an explaination).
I hadn''t experienced any of the random shutdown problems and counted myself as one of the lucky ones.
Until yesterday.
Normally, I just leave my MacBook on, closing the lid so that it goes to sleep (a carry over from my Linux/FreeBSD roots, where "uptime" was a bragging and boasting point in forums and IRC channels).
When I got home yesterday, I flipped up the MacBook lid (love that magnet!!!) and the damn thing was off!
I pressed the power button and the MB flickered and shut itself off. Tried again. This time it made it to the desktop, but shutdown after about 2 minutes.
FUCK! I realllly didn''t want to have to send in my MB for a "warranty repair".
Imagine my joy when I got home today, powered up the MacBook and Software Update reported that a firmware update was available. A firmware update that fixed the random shutdown issues.
Sweet Jebus, Halle Barrie.
It appears to have worked - "Bucky" (my MacBook''s name in homage to Get Fuzzy ) has been up and running for 3 hours without a problem.
